I SOLISTI Composers Lab gives composers the opportunity to experiment with writing music for visual media. In 2019 the challenge is animation film.

“We explore the work of audiovisual artist Sam Billen, who graduated in 2017 at LUCA School of Arts, C-mine Genk. With the most experienced composers George De Decker and Frederik Neyrinck as your coaches and the musicians and the other participating composers as your sounding board, you write your own soundtrack, which will be created by the musicians of I SOLISTI at a public concert by the end of the week. During the week you get full cooperation with the ensemble to get your work in progress just right.
What does the Composers Lab have to offer?
- In-depth guidance and coaching from experienced composers
- Rehearsals and work sessions with musicians from I SOLISTI and conductor
- A live recording of your own soundtrack, which you can use for your portfolio
It is possible that your composition will be included in the program of I SOLISTI during one of the following seasons.
The Composers Lab addresses mainly students composition and young composers who graduated no more than 5 years ago.
To guarantee the quality of coaching, places are limited to 8 persons.
Who are your coaches?
George De Decker studied piano and composition at the conservatories of Brussels and Antwerp, orchestra direction in Leuven and electronic music at IPEM in Ghent. He is a sound artist and visual artist. His compositons include solistic and symphonic works, sound installations and music for film, documentaries, television, theatre and dance.
Frederik Neyrinck studied piano and composition at the conservatories of Brussels, Stuttgart and Graz. He worked with diverse Belgian and international orchestras, ensembles and musicians/ theatre producers.In 2017-2018 he was season’s composer at Concertgebouw Brugge.
How to participate?
To be qualified, you have to submit two compositions for different instrumentations, of which at least one is written for ensemble. You have to send in before 22.04.2019.
How to register and participate?
At the beginning of May we will inform you if you are selected.
- €300 (meals excluded)
- €400 (meals included)
In the participation fee your overnight stay is excluded. However we can help you to find a place to stay.
To register validly:
- submit the registration form (via www.en.isolisti.be/academy)
- submit two compositions of your own for different instrumentations (at least one has to be written for ensemble)”
