CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS – LUXEMBOURG COMPOSITION ACADEMY 2019

“Undergraduate and (post)graduate composers are invited to participate in the Luxembourg Composition Academy, held between November 25 to 30, 2019 at neimënster (historic Abbaye de Neumünster) in Luxembourg with the faculty consisting of composers Philippe Leroux and Elena Mendoza, as well as the Luxembourgish ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin and conductor Elena Schwarz.
The Luxembourg Composition Academy offers young composers the opportunity to spend one week working in an inspiring and creative environment in the heart of Luxembourg. The program consists of lectures, one-to-one lessons with Philippe Leroux and Elena Mendoza, a workshop on how to present one’s music to the public, as well as workshops with the musicians of the ensemble and Elena Schwarz.
All selected composers are invited to write a new piece for United Instruments of Lucilin. These compositions will be premiered in the Academy’s final concert on November 30, 2019 as part of the rainy days festival, the Philharmonie Luxembourg’s international festival for contemporary music. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to stay until the end of the festival and attend all the concerts.
The academy will be taught in English, French and German. The participation fee is 450 € and includes accommodation (possible from November 22 to December 1, 2019) at neimënster as well as all concert tickets for the whole rainy days festival.
To apply for the academy, please submit a recent C.V., 2 scores (in .pdf format) and recordings (if available) to: email@example.com by July 7.
The selected composers will be notified by July 20.
Each of the selected composers should write a five-minute piece for 3 to 7 musicians (to choose between violin, viola, violoncello, flute or clarinet, saxophone, piano and percussions, and in agreement with United Instruments of Lucilin).
The deadline to send the final score is October 1st.
The Luxembourg Composition Academy is a cooperation between neimënster – Cultural Center Neumünster Abbey, United Instruments of Lucilin and Philharmonie Luxembourg.”
