A new competition for young composers – a tribute to the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși
DATE LIMITE: 15.03.2021
The Pro Valores Association organizes the first edition of the International Compositon Contest “Infinity Column”, a tribute to the most important Romanian sculptor - Constantin Brâncuși.
The competition stands out because of its focus on Brâncuși’s work, which has to serve as inspiration for the composers when writing their musical pieces. However, the participants have the freedom to relate to any of Brâncuși’s sculptures, not only the “Infinity Column”, since the aim of the contest is not a musical transcription of one work, but to nurture a syncretic relationship between visual art and music.
The selection of the young composers (up to 35 years old until the 31st of December 2020) will take place online. Scores in pdf format and the necessary documents for registration will be sent from November 1st until no later than March 15th, 2021, to the address: email@example.com.
The jury is formed by outstanding personalities of contemporary music: Univ. Prof. Dr. Dan Dediu – The National University of Music – Bucharest, Univ. Prof. Dr. Ghenadie Ciobanu – The Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts in Chisinau, Univ. Prof. Dr. Viorel Munteanu – “George Enescu” University of Arts in Iași, Univ. Prof. Dr. Adrian Pop – “Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music in Cluj and Dr. Diana Gheorghiu, composer and coordinator of the Creative Residency Programme within the ICon Arts Academy and Festival.
The competition offers real career launch opportunities for the young composers: the winning works will be performed at: The International New Music Week Festival – SIMN in Bucharest, 31st edition (May 23-30, 2021), The New Music Days Festival in Chisinau (republic of Moldova), 30th edition (June 2021) and The ICon Arts Festival, 19th edition (July 2021).
